Firing Pin Numbering Question

The question recently came up about whether or not firing pins are numbered in post-1921 DWM commercial Lugers. A DWM u suffix commercial was reported with no serial number, and another u suffix gun was examined with a matching number and a Imperial c/Letter Inspectorâ??s stamp.

A while back I did a brief survey of postwar 5-digit commercials, which established among other things that firing pins of these guns are most likely to be found un-numbered. I would like to extend this knowledge to the DWM Alphabet Commercial production. If you can report the serial number characteristics of an Alphabet Commercial, particularly in the s, t, u suffix range, Iâ??d appreciate it if you would post the information.

Dwight, I combined my two areas, you'll see why, very interesting looking at my guns this way:

All are police, with either sear and mag, and one has neither but police unit stamped...

1920 DWM 6276m crown N left side, police, firing pin fluted not numbered, forgot to look at breechblock

1929 DWM, 3124u, firing pin non-fluted, not numbered, breechblock has another number on rear besides sn.

1928 DWM, 2139r, crown n on left, firing pin numbered, Police, breechblock #48 on rear, but sn of 39 on left

1928 DWM, 7287r, police, crown n on left and crown g; firing pin stamped and fluted, breechblock has a #3 on rear, not numbered on sides

19171920 has imperial on right, and crown N on left! serial 2558t, firing pin numbered, breechblock nothing (police rework)

1920/1921 DWM, Police, 5634 sear and mag, firing pin fluted, no number, rear of breechblock has a 67

1921 sear, crown n on left, sn 83591a firing pin is fluted and has sn, breechblock has a #19 on rear and sn on the left.

Bill, Mike, Don, Ron, Ed,

Lots of good data here, thanks very much.

Dwight, From the above data, I believe that you will find that most all new production Weimar commerical lugers originally came with unnumbered unfluted firing pins (also unnumbered safety bar & lever and BB. The front toggle link and extractor are usually numbered internally. Reworks of earlier WW1 PO8 and later reworks for the police & military may have these parts numbered in the military fashion. TH
