What to do in Germany?
 

I am going to Germany for several weeks. Does anyone have recommendations on how and where to find lugers and German militaria. I have located an importer here in Texas. Anything to occupy my time in the area of military history? I will arrive in Frankfurt and probably will drive south from there.

hmmm, no... :D I was stationed in the Netherlands (NL aka as Holland) for 7 years and went to lots of museums, but while over there, looked for military items, but was not into it, like I am now.

Battlefields I can help you with, but never found a lot of military 'stores".

Out of your way, but Bastonge is good, although the local museums are more fun to look through, they have all the items that were picked up by locals.

Overloon is in the middle of the NL and is the largest tank battle fought in NL, and they have a nice museum there too.

Regensburg (might be mispelling that) is a really nice, ancient walled city. Not too touristy and great to get up early in the morning and walk the wall around the city.

Can't tell you much about firearms dealers, militaria dealers Detlev Niemann, Andre Huesken & Helmut Weise are all located in Hamburg very close to each other. There is not much in the Frankfurt area, but further south in Munich there are a couple of dealers in the old town area. Herman Historica, the auction house is in Munich too, but it is difficult to find them and they don't always welcome walk-ins. Kai Winkler is located in Seevetal / Maschen, but I'm not sure how close to Hamburg that is. Good hunting.

I was stationed just north of Frankfurt some time ago. I would have to add you must get out of the large citys. Go to a small village find a local Guest House a enjoy some of the finest beer and on Gods green earth. The people are very nice too.

The last time that I was in Frankfort, I visited the Frankonia store, which is an easy walk from the main railroad depot (Haupt Bahnhoff) and is was a really deluxe outfitter, just like their catalogs. Unfortunately, the only lugers that I saw were DDR reworks of WW1 PO8s @DM 1,000, which I could order more cheaply here in the states at the time. TH
