OT Sixth Army patches
 

I have a box of Sixth Army patches, came from my grandfathers. He had all kinds of things, was going through things in my basement and came across this one.


Not really a for sale ad, so didn't put it there, as I just want enough for shipping.... Anyone that wants one, send me $1.00 for a patch (if you want more, add $.50 each for shipping).

I literally have about a hundred or more of them. Here is the history on the unit;

My Dad (Tec 4) was in the six army! He was in from April of 41 to June of 45. I have his patch from his uniform and It's the exact same one. He passed away in 1979 due to complications to his liver. I always thought it was due to alcohol but I found out from my Mom (Army Air Corps S/SGT) a few years back he got a fungus infection from the jungle in the Pacific that was with him for the rest of his life, and took it's toll on his skin and liver.
You stated the patch was worn from January of 45. I'm just curious, what patch was worn before January? I know they had one that was just a red star. Was that the one?
I wish I got more info from him while he was alive, but I was just a kid and he really didn't talk to much about his time in the service.

My Dad spent some time in the Sixth. He was commissioned from sergeant to 2Lt in 41 and transferred from the Phillipines to Panama in 11/41. Later fought from New Guinea to Leyte. Ended the war in Washington in '45 as a LTC. Died in '72 of heart disease complicated by a drawer full of malaria. He was a quiet soldier who brought only himself and some terrible memories home from the war.

My mother carried a visceral hatred for the japanese to her grave in 1986, fourteen years after my father's death.

Evidently they had a darker green background that was chnaged to "army green" later.

Even though I was born during the war it's hard for me to understand the depth of feelings against the (former) enemies. I understand the hatred, just don't have the same perspective to really participate in it.

I finally bought a Japanese car in '02. A WWII vet revealed to me that he could never have done it. His malice toward the nation was very much alive.

I don't condone the feelings those folks have, but it is understandable due to what they experienced and the propaganda of the era.

I have to fight to avoid such feelings against the Bin Ladins out there.

Bob, I have about 30-40 of them, I would be glad to send you one, but right now I am New Hampshire and will be for about 5 months, although I will be home every now and then...

I would like one too. Please let us know when you will be home to send them so we can place orders. Thank you for making them available. I was attached to the Sixth Army while stationed at Fort Ord in 1969-70 after my year in Viet Nam. I lost track of my uniforms over multiple moves and Salvation Army donations.
