Is this 1941-stamped holster original?
Below is a photo and link for a Luger holster that sold on eBay for over $200. I only have 3 holsters, but I have never seen straps with indent near the edges like this one. My 3 holsters all have plain straps, IIRC. (Don't have them sitting with me).
Also, IIRC, the stitching for the lifting strap is always directly in line with the stitches in the strap, while this holster shows stitching offset from and less angled than those on the strap. These stitches are between the straps, rather than continuing from the left strap, like on my holsters. Also, something looks odd about the stitching, but that could be just because I have convinced myself this holster isn't orginal, and I'm looking for anything I can find. Call it wishful thinking in reverse. So, is this holster original, a new variation I'm not used to, or is this a nice Repro? The leather and stamping looks all original to me, but the aforementioned problems really stand out to me. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 http://i19.ebayimg.com/04/i/06/a0/f0/3a_3.JPG |

Good observations Jimbo... you pegged it correctly... This holster IS a modern reproduction... it is not an original WW2 holster... and I feel sorry for anyone who paid over $200 for this... it is a $40 holster at best...
Unfortunately, the seller on ebay never claimed it was an original... only that it was stamped 1941 (as many modern reproductions are...) I don't recognize any of the bidders list either... I can only hope that they are not forum members... that would be even more of a bummer. |
This is the second repro this week that has gone for some serious money. Knowledge is power. How many times have members recommended books before making a large purchase to newbies? I guess like many of us before them, live and learn. Jerry Burney

HANS ROMER 1915 Luger holster with imperial marking tool and spear magazine
I think the spear magazine, is that a weapon too? Is what drove this one up. Looks like a Sarco mag to me. I hate to think people are this stupid but that opinion might be easy to come by with this kind of evidence. Jerry Burney |
Did you guys notice that this latest holster has stock straps on the back? and a single belt loop too. Very unusual even for a repro, eh?
