Re: luger lube - I like Clenzoil
I use a dab of red grease on the rails, and Hoppe's gun oil on the smaller parts.

Re: luger lube
Yep, I like Break Free myself - been using it on my guns & swords for 15 years.

Re: luger lube
The rumor's out that BreakFree's formula has changed. I don't know as I'm still using the same bottle from a couple of years ago.

Re: luger lube
Rob,
From the post I have read so far, all seem very reasonable. The actual lube that is used for one or two shots is not important. What is important is the use of a lube that will stay on the metal, not breakdown under sustained firing. In a pinch, regular motor oil works well. I have read that the this was used by the Germans when gun oil was not available. I may go a little overboard with my lube, but I have never had a problem with my pistols. I use a GI Rifle Grease that smells terrible, but sure works good. For normal range firing, I have a light coating on all the sliding surfaces. On the other areas, I use Clenzoil as a rust protector. In a dirty, or dusty area, the use of a grease on the sliding surfaces can stop the action or cause premature wear. In this situation, a very light coating of Molybydenum Disulfide is excellent. Another is the use of Graphite powder on the sliding surfaces. Different situations can call for different lubes. My recommendation for an "off the shelf" product is RIG. RIG is also used as a long term storage grease, but the one they sell for use with stainless steel pistols (yes, stainless is bad to gall) is a great lube for the sliding surfaces of the Luger. You only have to use a very small amount. All the lube need to do is provide a surface where metal to metal contact is stopped. Marvin |
Clenzoil and RIG
I agree!! I use Clenzoil and both RIG Grease and RIG Gun Oil.

RIG
RIG grease and oil are my favorites. I have yet to try Clenzoil, but it has gotten great reviews in the past.
