Rare DWM Magazine
Hello. I am looking at the Magazine listed on E-bay #6611850509. It is listed as a rare Magazine. I see the "456" Vertical instead of crossways and I guess this is what make's it rare? any comments would be appreicated. ( By the way, some time back I received a Navy Magazine from Luger Lou and I never thanked him for it. I guess late is better than never, Thanks Luger Lou - Its a great Mag. Goes great in my Navy)

Thomas,
DWM Military Luger magazines were stamped this way from the First Issue (1908-1909 undated chamber) through 1911. Beginning 1912 magazines were numbered in the more conventional, crossways fashion. These early magazines are not commonly seen (I searched for months for one), and are not cheap when you find one. An interesting feature of this example is the serial number. DWM 1908 through 1911 production was numbered in a single sequence (no-suffix through f suffix), making this magazine the mate to one of the earliest DWM Imperial Lugers. --Dwight |

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like there are not to many of theses rare mags out there. It would be one for the collection, may not get the chance later. Thanks again, Tom |

Thanks. The other mag is getting to high for me. Maybe I'll have better luck with this one.

How about this one at $595! Is this high for a mag, or is it really "rare"?

You can almost buy a Luger for that amount!!!! I think I'll pass on this one. I will find one that someone will part at with a reasonable and fair price. If i bought this one I would be eating beans and he would be eating Steak, something wrong with this picture (ha ha). Thanks for the Tip.

Would like to know from some of our early Luger specialists what is the probable value of this "Early Luger magazine" by the seller known as "revshop."

Hi Luke,
I think the thin follower button magazines can come in 2 varieties...plain wood and the Swiss metal disk insert wood types. I bought one of the Swiss types for $ 395 about 1 year ago...figured I might have a correct early Swiss M1900 luger one day. I saw another plain wood one at Tulsa about 1.5 years ago with a show asking price of $ 450. |
Interesting difference in these earliest DWM mags, the flat fully checkered follower button has a threaded post, and screws in and out rather than the later type, which is peened in. TH

The back of the magazine tubes should not have that little round hole, either.

Althought the "Revshop" magazine is thought to be "rare", in my opinion, the price envelope is being pushed a bit. But then, one just needs to examine the latest Simpson LTD and FGS luger prices to see that it is much better to be a seller than a buyer here, unless the prices not only keep going up but that these asking prices are actually obtained in sales.
