Snail Magazine $$$$$$
 

In case anyone has an extra 2k laying around, there is a real nice snail mag on Ebay.

One of the mods should move this to the artillery forum. That said I think that the price is high, but they are not coming up for sale as often anymore. This one does include the loading tool, which if real is worth at least $600+. Consider that I paid $700 for a type 2 five years ago and $1000 for a type 1 three years ago. Seems that rare Luger accessories are climbing at a furious rate anymore.

In the write up the seller mentioned he lived in Canada and was having a gunsmith fix the snail drum so it would only hold 5 rounds and be legal. I think I would have a concern with how it was done and if it could be "undone" down here in the USA. Seems like sometime in the past somebody told me not to open them up if you didn't have to. Just some thoughts. Brent

There are "fake" repro drum magazines which are essentially functional 8-round magazines with faux drums attached at the bottom.

Blocking a "live" snail drum to 5 rounds could be accomplished with solder, and some hard work. It would beyond most inspections to make it functional, but the judicious application of heat could recover the full capacity...

You might also find that some of our Canadian counterparts, might also stretch the truth on a sale to the USA if it meant getting the highest dollar... To announce on Ebay that you are going to subvert their regulations would get your auction pulled in a heartbeat... Tell them what they want to hear, and they are likely to leave you alone...

FWIW,

BATF regs require agency approval of hi-cap mag prior to import.

Does ATF routinely permit importation of "collectors' items" like Parabellum drum magazines, or is this one of those circumstances which regulations may permit but is in practice never allowed?

There are no capacity limit for the magazines here in norway.. just dont have the $$$ now:\

All I for one would argue strongly with the seller Matt, Canadians are restricted from using anything higher than a ten round magazine in a pistol. ie the browning hi-power 13 round capacity.

It is rifle magazines that must be pinned for 5 rounds if you are using them out in the open at ranges/meets/hunting.

Matt may be mistaken that when this magazine is assembled into an artillary luger with a stock it then becomes a carbine which would then fall within the guidelines of a rifle.

We have no laws selling magazine parts, he could have disassembled the drum and it is now legal.

Canadians also have the option of gunshows which allow this magazine to be displayed provided it is not inserted into a pistol and is called an antique,

All in all it is an interpretation of the law yet to be tested before the courts.

It was mentioned that it came with a canvas carrier.....that also explains the high price......

Just to clarify, the Luger snail drum mag is specifically exempted from the 10 round rule in Canada. One of those very rare fleeting instances of sanity when the Canadian gun laws were passed in the 90's.

Indeed, I live in Cananda and have a TM-08 that can be used to full capacity. I bought it specifically because it can hold more than the 10 rounds that all other pistol mags are allowed.

An interesting question... I would venture a guess that the answer is yes, but since I have never been in a position to actually own a TM-08 magazine, I will wait along with you for a competent answer from someone who has done it...

Would be nice but I can not import the mag into CA because it is considered a High Capacity magizine, >10 rounds.
