those cheap Russian revolvers
i heard a person can pick up one of those Nagant 1895 pistols with all the fixings for under $100 bucks. anyone know a good place to get one? will the big gun shows have some?
i haven't done a FFL transfer in 15 years . have the rules changed? thanks. dan in mpls. |
I just bought one at a gun show for $125. Haven't seen 'em for under $100. You need to know that the ammo is very expensive, and only made by one company that I know of. Fiocchi is the only current producer of 7.62 Nagant, and it runs $30 or more per box of 50. You used to be able to get an extra cylinder that would use .32 ACP, but haven't seen one of those in a long while.
Also, these are not the most accurate weapon you can find, but in spite of all that, they're great fun to shoot. Very low recoil. Think 22LR +P.:) |
They are $79.95 if you buy two, and $89.95 for one from SOG. But you have to have an FFL (01 or 03) and you pay shipping, so I'd say $125 is a fair price.
Dennis Kroh has them for $85.00 and he has a good rep, although I have never bought from him: http://www.empirearms.com/pistols.htm Some folks say you can use 32 long in them, I don't know as I don't have one. This site is devoted to them: http://www.gunboards.com/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=21 Ed |
Empire arms has them for $85.

Hi all,
I bought three Nagant pistols on the last three months. They are FUN! I have a 1918 -1933-1940.I can afford them and they are a part of world history. Two have the large Century BANNER markings on the right side of the reciver. The other one is marked in small letters under the barrel. Empire arms guns are marked with small letters from what I hear.Dennis is a real nice guy. From what I have read and guys I have talked to about them you can use 32 S&W longs and 32 H&R mags. in it. I did locate and buy a 32auto cylinder for $50 You can use resized 32-20 brass or buy Starline Nagant brass cheaply. Dies for a M-1 Carbine die will resize the cases and a 32cal. expander is used to start the .312 bullet. Lee makes a set of dies but most guys are not happy with them at all. It seems to be a toss up some guys are using 308 bullets lead or jacked or 312 in lead. I have loaded about 200 rounds and see no diffrence on 308 or 312 lead bullets.both are right on. All three revolvers shoot really well once you get use to the strong trigger pull. My1940 has the worst trigger, when I have a chance I will tinker with it. The other two are not bad at all. I can shoot 7 shots in the black on a standard indoor pistol target with the Nagants at 25 feet single action. :D They are typical Russian, no frills, rough, strong simple work horse. :D check the sites mentioned. Be well, broomhandle |
These are starting to show up a cowboy shoots and are SASS legal, my cowboy action job is more then the gun cost, but we can get the triggers down to a clean 3 to 4 pounds.....don't ask me why it is SASS legal but they are.

Hi All,
I did buy two boxs of the $30 a box Focchi ammo. mainly for the boxer cases ,later on I found out about the Starline brass. I have one box put away. The Focchi brass have been reloaded three times. I have 100 Starline cases the are just a little shorter. I like them better as you don't have to put that strange crimp on the case. I will buy a box of 32H&R magnums, the guys over on the cast bullet board have fired 100s thru thier guns with no problems. Some fellows take clear tape and wrap the 32 mag.cases as some fellows guns seem to be a large in the cylinder and bulge the cases a bit. Be well & safe, broomhandle |
With the diseased laws on handguns in this part of the world, Nagants are as rare as rocking horse poo, but I have heard that .310 Martini ammo will work in them.
........'course .310 Martini ammo is probably as rare as rocking horse poo in your part of the world. |
I have purchased several items from Empire Arms, and the items were in better condition than those of many other distributors.

I have one of these nifty pistols and have shot 32 mag ammo in it. It is not bad for recoil. I read on one of ther boards that the early dies were made for 32 long cases because the Nagant cases were not available. I believe one fellow cantacted lee and they sent him new parts to correct the problem of the bullet not seating deep enough free of charge.
