Holster ID and appraisal
 

I don't know much about these and need a bit of help. There are some little dots on the leather that I assume are paint. I apologize for the amount of pictures, but I thought it would be better than too few.

Looks like a very nice holster, brown is desirable to many collectors. Odd that someone completly took off the rear straps? That brings value down to many, I would guess $50 to replace the straps? Even without the straps, $150-$200, maybe more as it is in nice shape... but even an expert has to be awful careful to ensure the straps were replaced (and no matter how good it looks, they would have been replaced...)

Thanks for the reply Ed. Can you shed some light on the name and stamp? I don't know anything about these. I think I have the year part figured out though.

I don't know the name specifically, the city it was made in is Heidelberg, a very nice city in Mid Germany, near Mannheim.

The manufacturer was Wilhelm Brand , whos company was founded in 1900 and may still be in business as Wilhelm Brand KG, Walldorf. His inspection number was 204. His letter code was jvf. Nice holster. Jerry Burney can fix the loops. ( lugerholsterrepair@earthlink.net )

You might consider having LF member Jerry Burney restore the belt looks and maybe even replace the closure strap...you will not be displeased with his craftsmanship...

This holster, in such nice shape, deserves to be restored to its functional condition...

What a tragedy to have a holster in this fine a condition have it's belt loops and lifting strap removed... by all means have Jerry Burney do a restoration of this piece...

The lifting strap appears intact.

I think the strap is still inserted in the hole in the front of the holster, but where it is stitched to the back of the holster (next to one of the belt loops) is missing its stitches...so I think John S's eagle eye caught it...

Judging by how neatly the belt loops have been removed, I would hazard a guess that the original loops were cut (a common practice that was employed to quickly remove the holster from a belt) and a previous owner removed the loops intending to replace them and never got around to it.

It is an excellent holster and well worthy of being restored by Jerry Burney as John has suggested.
