1936 versus 1936

Have acquired a second 1936. The one I have had for some time is #6723f w/match mag. It has the G date machining around the muzzle swell and a bright magazine body. The next one is #3622n, has the later approach to the machined angle at the muzzle swell and a blued matching mag. Lots of guns between f and n. two questions; what letter ends G date production??????? I have 4778d G date. What letter does 1937 begin with? I have 788r 1937 strawed. I guess the next questions would be what serial #/letter ended bright mag bodies and again for the muzzle swell machining change???

PJ, don't you have 3rd Reich Lugers by Still? ;)

G dates made 930a - 5000f

Then the 1936 runs 5000f to 4500p

1937 4500p - 400b

Yup.........I have all these books. Am aware I can research this but figured someone out there might enjoy the mental exercise....... I was hoping for some input on the last question, but seemed to need some level of introductory questions to get the ball rolling.

Hi PJ, the blue body magazines started in the L-Block of 1936. The nickel plated magazine tubes continued into the 1937 production. So for that period you might find either.

Now we are getting somewhere............I just got an interesting magazine, no number but a clear plain se 655 proof, 1939-40 style.

Does anyone know for sure how many were produced per month?

A G stamped 08 with the serial 2953d when would that app. have been made? April 1935?

Is it possible to find serial lists on the net? I always had the impression that serials started at 1 each year? From the above post I can see that this is not the case?

Best bet is to buy Jan Still's third Reich Lugers, it has best guesses on serial numbers, no one knows for sure, there are just best guesses.

Above, you will see what I copied for G dates, that is from his book...

byf43, Mauser Lugers did not begin every year with the number 1. Only in 1934 (K-Date Lugers). There is no data on the production by month. We can approximate the completion date by assuming a even production over the year. Using that assumption, 2953d was completed about August 1935.
