Need on for marking on WW1/1939
1 Attachment(s)
I have a shooter I was about to put up for sale and was checking all the serial numbers when I came accross 2 markings under the side plate that I am not familar with. They are "R" and "M". The frame is imperial marked and the top half is WWII marked but there are not simpson rework proofs. There are no unit markings on the front strap.

The crown/a letter on the outside of the sideplate is an Imperial inspector's acceptance. The "M" inside the plate and on the frame, was another sub-inspector at Erfurt. TH

Thanks Tom. I knew about the crown but just wanted to add the picture. Is the "R" also a sub inspector?

yes, letters were used to show that individual parts had been checked.
