DWM 1920 Commercial Box

In reading a number of posts on this forum re the 1920 commercial, it would seem the consensus is, that even in 99% condition, they should not sell for much more than $700-800, (although I have seen some listed as high as $1,500)

My question is, is the original box that rare, that it is worth $4000? I am referring to Item D-106 from Simpsons offered at $5,500. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Vince

I don't think so, although they state;

Quote:

DWM 1920 COMMERCIAL; 7.65 mm; 99% blue, 99% straw, excellent bore, excellent grips, near mint 1920 Commercial with original box and manual, s/n 88xxm, Catalog Number D-106
And if it is truely 99 amd 99 with an original box, it is rare as hens teeth. Of course that is the asking price, lets see how long it stays on the site, unsold?

Yeah, they have a burned out Brazilian for $900 that's been there for well over a year that I know of (when I first stared looking at such things) and won't sell anytime too soon. One day it'll reach the asking price in value, but not tomorrow...

I sent an email about it but was told that's it's a consignment piece and not negotiable.

And I keep looking elsewhere...

Hi,

Although a box is extremely rare, I'd doubt that the price of a box will surpass that of a decent holster.

I'd be happy and smiling if I could buy an original box under 300USD, but slightly depressed if it would cost some 4000 :)

In my opinion, 1920 Lugers in superb condition bring far higher prices than is generally believed. I would be very surprised to see one sold for less than $1000, and would not be surprised to see one change hands at $1250 or so. Outstanding condition increases value tremendously.

Well sure, but $5,500?

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a consignment gun, so it probably has the owner's lofty price plus Simpson's fee.

Some here may recall that a 1920 commercial box sold on Ebay a few years back. I believe that it went for $8-900 or so.
