take down spring
 

I can not find what a take down spring looks like, does any one have a photo and how it installs? I see the pin on the bottom of the frame, thanks

do I need the take down spring? it was working with out it?

have you looked in our technical section? There are pictures and a breakdown chart there...

The takedown spring is an L-shaped spring with the shorter part of the L sticking vertically into the bottom of the frame. The Longer part of the L rests flat in a small groove underneath the takedown lever in the lever hole.

You certainly need one. If you fire a pistol without a takedown spring, the lever will most likely go into the dismantle position upon recoil. This will lead to the interesting experience of your pistol fieldstripping itself during operation.

could some one post a photo of the take down sping?
I have a pin that is still in the frame of the gun, just under the spring slot.
Do I need this pin or is it what is left of the take down sping that is missing? The pin looks like a smaller version of the one in the middle toggle that holds that pin in. thanks for the hlep guys.

Gerben, I like your accurate discription. Sometimes if the luger has an ill fitting side plate or bent TD lever, it will fire fine without the spring, but take down will usually be difficult. TH

Sorry, I don't have a picture of one. The "pin" still in the frame is what is left; the rest of the spring is broken away from it.

Here you go... here is a photo taken from an eBay auction by our member named Pisto... he sells on ebay as Pisto.lero and if you do an advanced search for completed listings I see that the last spring he tried to auction didn't get any bids...

If you look at the exploded view drawing of the P08 (as shown on many websites), you will not find the spring shown at all (it should have part number 26 ((or on some sites, "026")), and all parts after should have one number higher than on the drawing). The exploded view drawing of the old model 1900-1902 shows the spring as part # 17.

take down spring,
 

I recieved the take down spring, and started to install it.
When the right side of the spring was in the deepest part of the slot, I needed to tap down the left side. I tapped and half the spring broke off. I had to keep tapping the left side, I used a punch and lightly tapped. I got it to go down into the slot and enough sticks up to make the take down lever move with some friction so as to keep it in place. Has any one had a cheap take down spring before?
It did not act like spring steel, I did not tap on it very hard, It will work, it is just not a perfect install.

Did you get an original spring, or a reproduction? In my experience, the part of the repro spring that sticks down into the bottom of the frame is slightly oversized, and needs to be 'filed to fit'. I have broken the spring trying to get the oversized piece -out- so I could fix it. I think these things are somewhat fragile, particularly in the area where they bend 90-degrees to enter the frame.

As an aside, I did a broken-part survey a few years ago http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...n+parts+survey and discovered that this spring is the second most commonly broken part on a Luger.

I'd say pick up another one--original, if possible--and try it again, a little more carefully.
