Luger holsters, tan or brown?
On ebay there are two Luger holsters for sale. One is offered at a buy-it-now price of $700, the other at $500. They look to be in excellent condition and the seller claims the tan color holster are scarce and command a premium. I saw a holster with the same "tan" color at the Reno gun show in excellent+ condition and he wanted $1000 for it! Is there a difference in value for tan color holsters over brown holsters or is this guy just whistling Dixie?

yes, brown is less common, plus more desirable by most folks.

Thanks for your reply Ed. So, just to get this straight in my mind the holster pictured here is described as tan like those I saw on ebay and not the darker color brown we see on other holsters. Dark brown holsters and the tan holster pictured here have the same value...right?

Concerning holster value, many factors come into play. First of all would be condition, especially as pertains to the legibility of the maker marks. If the surface of the leather is "alligatored", no matter what color the thing is, it won't command a good price.
Have been saying it for years and practicing it longer: buy the best holsters you can find. They appreciate far faster and at a higher % than the guns. Tom A |
