I'm probably going to draw flames for this but here goes.
Whilst the possible closure of the Winchester factory, and the resulting job losses is a shame. Winchester has in some cases brought their slump in sales upon themselves.
In the mid- 80's,Winchester Australia lobbied the Australian Government to ban the import of all ex-military firearms. This was done on the arguement that people who need a cheap knock around scrub gun and who cannot get a ex-mil Mauser or Lee Enfield, would probably end up buying a '94. At the time they carried advertisements in publications like the Australian Shooter's Journal saying "Don't buy ex-military junk". They lost a lot of customer support over this. I will not have a Winchester product if the same is available from a different manafacturer, and I am not alone.
