Double Magazine pouch
 

I have a double Luger magazine pouch which appears to date from 1915. Are these rare? On the inside flap it is marked â??F L. B. 1â?? and â??1915â??. With it there are 2 magazines, wood-bottomed and black in colour. They are unmarked, but slightly rust stained.
I have several questions:

1. Are magazines contemporary for the pouch, or later?
2. I am thinking of selling. What might the ensemble be worth?
3. Would it be worth my while selling the magazines separately?

The magazines are reproductions not contemporary to the pouch. The pouch is WWI German military issue. The inked marking seems to be a depot marking.

The value of the pouch is hard to say. I haven't seen one sold lately. I am interested in buying it and will email you.

The leather of your dual mag pouch is extreemly dry and cracking. At one time it was dyed black and then an attempt to remove the black dye was attempted. Your mags could be original, but reblued and the wood bottom pieces don't fit well and probably loose. Are there any markings on the bottoms or the tubes. If "9 or KK/10 in a circle" they are probably of Portugese manufacture. TH

There are no markings whatsoever on the mags.
Why might they have been reblued? If they were, does that mean they were blued to start with?

I sold two of them at a Reno gun show about 2 years ago, no clips, and is worse shape, each dated 1916, and got $145 each...hope this helps

I do not own one of these pouches, but it brings to mind a question. We know that WWI Lugers were issued with two matching magazines. Assuming that one magazine is in the pistol and the other is in the holster pouch, what would be the markings (if any) on the two magazines in the pouch? Would they be unmarked in the commercial style?

The LP08 was typically issued with either five or more magazines. Since the standard LP08 holster had no accomodation for additional magazines, two double magazine pouches were usually issued to carry the magazines. In some cases triple magazine pouches were worn so there may have been a total of seven magazines numbered to the pistol.

I have to respectfully disagree with Tom's analysis of the leather condition. It is not dry and cracking, in fact the leather looks to be soft and supple on the front surface. The backside has what I frequently see on older leather pieces. A sort of microbal leather termite. I am sure there is some technical term for it but I recently saw it on Dutch holsters. It was on all three of them in varying degrees of severity. Jerry Burney

Three or more matching magazines are mindboggling. Do any forum members have five or more?

I have heard of three for army, never heard of higher. for weimar police I have a couple of #3 magazines, none higher.

That doesn't mean there aren't any, just that I have never seen them (although if keoki says there are, I believe him :p.

I have a G N R dated 1936 double magazine holster that the back is excellent, but the front surface is dry and has surface cracking. If anybody would be interested in this type for their G N R rig, please PM or call me
