Luger mag in wood

1 Attachment(s)
Hello to all and happy new year.
I have become this from an old man. Its look like a luger mag. But it is on wood. It is what Joachim G¶rtz (in the book "Die Pistole 08") called a dummy magazin?
All informations is welcome.
Thanks and best regards

Olivier, Your photo appears to show a wood peg with a cut down P08 mag bottom glued on. I've never heard of one of these for the luger, but the Borchardt did have a "dummy wood magazine" used for cleaning the C93. TH

Hi,

Goertz indeed shows one in his book. These are thought to be dummy magazines for exercise purposes. There also was a wooden dummy luger.

The thought of having a wooden magazine, nonfunctional and expensive to produce, for military practice makes no sense. Perhaps for a saddler's use in making holsters or pouches, but not the military.

Bonjour Olivier,
Absolutely interesting finding.
I have in my collection the following items that are, in some way, related to your wood magazine.
In the pictures you can see a Holzattrappe, a wooden replica of the P08. In addition, a few months ago, I found out this interesting photo that shows a German soldier with a Holzattrappe during a training activity. This is the only photo I know where a Holzattrappe is shown.
Gortz states also that this item was used to fill the holster when not used for a while. This could be another use although the photo shows the use of this item for training.
Happy and safe 2006.
Ciao
Mauro

Do you figure the Holzattrappe was unique to the P08 or were there other models?

Hi Jerry,
Hereafter a scan from the Gortz's book. Actually I have seen only the Holzattappe I have in my collection and the photos I have presented therefore it is quite difficult to figure out if there are different types of Holzattrappe.
I hope this helps.

Hello to all.
Thanks for all the information you have give me.
Mauro you write that "there are different types of Holtzattrappe", I think it is normal. As it is write in german in your first post: "anfertigung der F¼llst¼cke erfolgt durch die Truppenwaffenmeister", thats mean that the regiment armor made this Holtzattrappe. So this is not a manufactured production, but a man made from the "Waffenmeister".
Best regards
Olivier
