7.65 mm Luger

I have a mint 7.65 mm Luger with matching numbers. It has the last two digits of the serial number stamped on all the parts of the gun. Have 3 clips and a 30 round snail clip. My father bought this in 1962. Any insight to what it's worth?

Ron Wood 12-20-2005 11:32 PM

It could be anything from 1900 to a 1920 or somewhere in between, and naturally prices will vary widely. Mint is sometimes in the eye of the beholder. Yours may be mint or it may be a rework. Folks here will need a lot more information about markings and if you can provide photos it will save a lot of question and answer sessions. Without photos at best you are going to get are very vague answers. The 30 round snail magazine is another matter. In good shape, not rusted or dented, and completely functional could be worth anywhere from $1000 to $1500 depending on condition.

(I will move this once you are approved for membership, as guests can post here).

The three magazines might be worth $20 each if aftermarket, and up to $125+ each if wood bottomed commerical mags.

The 30 round snail mag we'd like to see, but if a "trommel magazine", it is worth possibly more than the gun!

All depends on condition, originallity, etc.

Welcome to the forum!

I will take all the mint 7.65mm 1900 Lugers you can find for $700:D . (You forgot about the early ones Ed!)

Thanks

I'll send photos on Saturday. My Father asked if I could look into the value. He said there is a "N" under the serial number and a "Germany" on the gun. I remember the snail clip being an army green color. He'll possibly be interested in selling. He needs to purchase a positive traction rear end for his 1967 Camaro.

Thanks,

Dan

Ron, I know, but didn't want to change my posting too much after seeing what you said ;)

ALL, depends on what it is. I am guessing a 1923 Commerical, so what I first said on value ($500-$700).

Do you know the serial number of it, that would tell us a lot.

I am actually looking for a nice commerical 30 luger, so.... :)

He's like to sell everything. There are two magazines with aluminum bottoms, one with wood not matching, the snail magazine. We don't know what it's all worth? Give me a number and I'll have him call you.

Thanks Ed, for helping with the photos

Pat, the snail is correct, you have the second number upside down. It should read xxxx89. On type III Bings the serial number can be either near the "27" marking or under the cranking arm.

Can anyone date this gun for me?

Edward Tinker 12-27-2005 10:18 PM

Dan, forgot you wanted that. In Weimar Lugers it has the "n" suffix as being made in 1924.

Thanks Ed, what exactly is a Weimar Luger?
