Neat Navy Unit Photo...

This one is/was running on e-Bay...nice to see the rare cutlass...let alone four of them...

Cannot be sure...but do the two guys on each end have an extra long luger barrel sticking out the bottoms of their leather holsters...???

Pretty neat photo, Fritz showed it to us a couple of days ago. I think it was put on, then pulled, then put on again?

Pete, I think you are seeing reflection of light off the metal attaching irons on the Navy stocks.

lugerholsterrepair 12-10-2005 11:14 PM

Herb is correct. This is the top of the stock. Interesting to note...even though the Sailors are sporting the Imperial Naval cutlass, no one seems to be wearing the cutlass scabbard. Jerry Burney

Tom Armstrong was probably there that day, behind the camera, and bought all the scabbards...:D

Looks like the fellow lying on the ground on the left side of the photo might have his scabbard showing...???...and the fellow standing on the far right side of the photo may have his left hand down by his scabbard...???

Tom couldn't have been behind the camera. There are no toes in the photo!

It looks like the guy sitting in the middle, and the guy standing far right are twins. :) :) :)

and they all look happy as a lark too. :D

Curly1 12-11-2005 10:26 AM

Ed wouldn't you be happy too if you had a brand new Navy in yer hand. :D

Rod WMG 12-11-2005 11:00 AM

I must be crosseyed or something, how many fingers does the guy on the right in the middle have on his right hand?

Edward Tinker 12-11-2005 02:03 PM

I think it is the handle we are seeing Rod, as, at first appears to be 5 or 6! :D

My toes would have been in those boots.

Re: scabbards. Boarding cutlasses were frequently stored in individual racks, both aboard smaller vessels and ashore, without the scabbard being present. This was likewise common in the USN and is a plausible explanation as to why as hard as it is to find a boarding cutless, it is even harder to find one with a scabbard.
