7.65

I am new to owning a luger and I love the history behind it. It is a 1915 DWM. I was told when I bought it that it fires 9mm shells. They didn't fit. From what I can tell, the only other round it will fire is 7.65mm. Is there somewhere that I can find out if this is what it fires or somewhere I can find out a lot more about it. I know the serial number too.

Eric, welcome to the forum! ;)

If it is a 1915 DWM, then the barrel was put onto it, or it was relined. I have a 1912 DWM that was relined to 7.65mm (also called 30 luger). You can measure the bore if you have a micrometer.

I will move this either to new collectors or to the military section, as early lugers are usually considered before ww1.

Can you provide pictures?

Does it have "germany" stamped anywhere on it?

Thanks a lot for the info. It was very useful.

I know it has a new barrel. I'm guessing that's what you meen by relined. I read about the witness mark and I saw that it wasn't on the barrel. Getting ahold of a micrometer is my next step then. Thanks for passing it on to where it needs to go. I'll take a few pictures.

It doesn't say Germany anywhere on it. It does have a proof mark which is number 15 on the proof mark section of this site.

Thanks again.

Eric. A quick check on the caliper. Take a regular lead eraser pencil, If the eraser end fits down the barrel it's a 9mm, if not it is a 30.

Might sound better if I could spell caliber.
