Anyone seen another one like this ?

Paticularly of interest to me are those "9 m/m" stampings...have folks seen this style on other magagines before ? Any book references ?

Pete,
9m/m script magazines are found in 1902 Fat Barrels, 1906 Commercial and AE, and 1906 Russian. It is a commercial magazine. I haven't seen a 9m/m Navy before. I am pretty sure you will find them referenced in most Luger books.

Kenyon (p.92) notes that some 1906 Navy Commercials were provided with magazines like this.

One pristine commercial Navy changed hands at the recent Reno show with such a magazine.

Hi Pete.....It should read............Cal. 9m/m on the mag bottom. I do not see the "cal." on this particular mag.

Leo,

A good point, and one I glossed over in my Kenyon reference (he does, indeed, say "Cal. 9m/m".

Note who the seller is.

Dwight..I rest my case.

He says it has "Cal 9mm" on the bottom, but darned if I can see the "Cal".

Pete Ebbink 11-25-2005 08:38 PM

I was checking to see which Members were awake...

I thought it should read "Cal 9m/m" as well...

Ed...the trouble with whiting (and now...your yellowing) is you cannot see the real nature of the stampings underneath...;)

Ron Wood 11-25-2005 11:20 PM

OK, you caught me napping:o Guess I shoulda known you wouldn't ask such a basic question without a trick up your sleeve!:p I took too quick of a look and just assumed the "Cal" didn't show up on the picture.

Dwight Gruber 11-26-2005 12:08 AM

I'm curious to know how the 9m/m compare to the stamping of an original. I've gone through my library and can't find a picture of one, anybody got one they can post?

Dwight.........If Pete will assist me in posting a picture I will send one to him.

Whoa Nellie! If I am not missing something, I was under the impression that the Navy commercial originally had the "Cal 9mm" stamped on the bottom of a commercial non-concentric circled magazine! I have never seen or heard of such a stamping on a "real" concentric ringed magazine. And yes, it SHOULD have the "Cal" there. The 9mm stamping looks very sharp and fresh and with the previous caveats regarding the seller, I would look at this magazine with utmost suspicion and doubt at to its originality.

luger11 11-26-2005 11:01 AM

According to Mr. Kenyon on page 92 of his book LAR the wood bottom is concentric ringed.

I will check with a noted authority on this subject (Mike Krause) and get back later.

Navy 11-26-2005 06:11 PM

You will find Cal 9MM on both type mags if you examine enough samples.

Tom Armstrong is absolutely correct and Mike Krause concurs. He also said that the "9mm" without the associated "Cal" should be viewed as highly suspect.

Pete Ebbink 11-26-2005 08:52 PM

Doc,

Do not forget we know of a fellow that sells nice "Cal 9m/m" wooden magazines from the MO area as well...(i.e. NOT Tom Heller...). I think you even have a copy of his order list...

Nice, new sharp stampings in the wood should typically be the tip-off...

drbuster 11-27-2005 08:59 AM

Pete, do you mean the gentleman who fixes that million dollar chip on grips and reworks 1920 commercials to the buyer's specifications?

Pete Ebbink 12-04-2005 06:17 PM

Hope this e-Bay seller is not a LF member :

" us2008 "

He is going for it to the tune of $ 400...
