I like it. Now, what's the exchange rate?

Don M 10-29-2005 07:59 AM

I'm puzzled. I didn't know that the police used LP08s. Also, that's one hell of a spare magazine - 20 rounds?

Ron Smith 10-29-2005 08:11 AM

Don,

That's not a mag pouch. It's the pouch for the cleaning rod. A standard fixture on Artillery holsters. The seller is also stating that this is the Naval version, which is doubtful. Not a police holster.

I tried to bid on this but wouldn't accept my bid? Jerry Burney

Ron Smith 10-29-2005 01:42 PM

Jerry,
I think they're saying that they won't sell outside Germany. Guess they want to keep it in the family. Maybe you could have Martin Kraus or Gerben bid on it for you.

I'm working on it :D

Ron,

That shows how much I know! Thanks for setting me straight.

Ron Smith 10-29-2005 09:35 PM

Don,

You're welcome! My understanding is that some police units did have LP.08s in violation of the treaty restrictions. Not sure now where I heard or read it.

I have heard this from several angles;

1. Heard that they used LP08 stocks for test firing lugers.
2. Heard that they used LP08's for some operations, although you'd think you'd see them with sear safety's or unit markings...

Unsure about treaty violations, as the police were sometimes "exempt", but I have to read my weimar / nazi police book I got for my birthday, well received two accidently, same book :D

Olivier,
That's the photo that I saw, that spurred the memory. I knew that I had seen some referrence to LP.08s and the police.

Thanks! Ron

To respond to the exchange rate question, as of today, Sunday 30 October 2005:

1 Euro = 1.20620 Dollars

or

1 Dollar = 0.82905 Dollars

Thus, as I write, the holster is at 251,00 Euros = $302.76.

A safe estimate in the absence of large currency fluctuations over the next several days can be obtained by replacing the Euro value comma with a decimal point and then mulitiply the amount shown in Euros by 1.21.

Looks like a very nice holster.

Hope this is small help.

David
