AMERICAN EAGLE LUGER...I know little about Lugers so I'll post this for your reference and you can beat it up or advise me of what to look for...I stripped it down and it matches as far as all numbered parts (magazine does not match and grips appear to be numbered "30")...Serial number 45844...Some minor pitting along inside grip straps otherwise fine overall.

All comments/suggestions/criticisms & witticisms are welcome and thanks for taking time to look.

I have several others to post for your review on different forums here-"G" date and commercial Navy, 1918 Artillery and a Portuguese Army M2 luger.

Ed,

Does this American Eagle have any proof marks on the left receiver?

No proofs that I see on the side...a few under grips

Can you provide a clear photo of the circular mark on the barrel just below the serial number? Nice looking early Luger. It is a commercial so the magazine would not be numbered.

Thanks for the photo, but it is still difficult to make out much detail. Is it a letter, or a circle with a letter in it, or some other type of mark? It looks like it might be a circle with a "B" in it which is like a Brazilian contract Luger proof. I have seen two other American Eagle Lugers with this odd barrel marking.

Hard to get a clear shot-hope this helps

Ron Wood 10-19-2005 03:22 PM

Yep, circle B. Thanks

Ed Hicks 10-19-2005 03:25 PM

Ron,

So it's an American Eagle with a Brazilian proof??? Correct or Sold in Brazil or is it altered?

Ed...

Since it is Germany stamped, it was heading to the USA. DWM probably had left over parts from their contract with Brazil and just used them up. They did that with spare Swiss barrels as well...
