p-08 marking on frame
Just saw a luger at my gun shop range
Guy was picking it up on a transfer Under the circumstances I couldn't get as close a look at it as I wanted It came with "bring back papers" - dated 1945 Name was "Pasternack" Name sounded familiar but couldnt place it It was a "42" Some idiot had it "chromed" I caught glimpse of a "P-08" stamped on the left side of the frame Just forward of the Safety I don't remember seeing this marking before Neither of my "42's" have it Is it legitimate ?? What does it mean please respond to renaissance@renman.cnc.net |
it is legitimate, and we'd rather respond on line, that is why it is a forum? :D
being chromed it is worth about $350, and if anyone has a nickle or chrome at that price, as I sold mine for that recently, e-mail me weimar_lugers@comcast.net :) |
Hi Philip,
* After approximately the 2600n - 3200n range of '41 Luger production, virtually all Mauser Military frames bear a "P08" in the location you have mentioned. * See the attached thread for transitions occurring in and about this S/N range. http://www.gunboards.com/luger/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4017 * Some opine this P08 marking was added to "eliminate" confusion with the emerging P.38 pistols. I never did quite figure how anyone was going to assemble a P.38 slide to a Luger Frame and vice-versa; but, maybe with a Soviet T33 on a direct beeline, anything might have been attempted. * Hope this helps. Respectfully, Bob |
