Wolff vs Mauser spring
Yes, it raises a question. Why did Wolff copy the Mauser spring for loaded force but in no other parameter? It's worth noting that in their specs most spring suppliers state loaded force but not the preload force. This seems to apply for recoil springs for any pistol, not just Lugers.

From a manufacturing aspect, I would speculate that Wolff produces springs in the most economical manner that it can that will produce a functioning part... nothing more and nothing less... probably producing the spring EXACTLY as Mauser produced them would require a "tooling" change from what they can already do...
A couple of years of managing a manufacturing engineering department taught me that... |
I have both the original WW2 era Mauser PO8 recoil springs @$15 each or new post war Mauser or new Wolff's @$10 each + S&H. Tom
