Museum Liquidation
An interesting story here...http://cgi.ebay.com/Wood-Stock-Germa...QQcmdZViewItem
--Dwight |
I think I would be very careful here...too much information. The story might be as phony as the stock.
|
When the ad is read, consider how "little" information is given about the stock.
|
I am "watching" their auctions tho, also surprised to see several repro items, although some museums may just want it to "look" right as a display.
I would guess this story would be fairly easy to check out, at least the truth of the museum being closed? The truth on whether "these" items are true museum items is another matter. Ed |
Guys,
Ever here of Piltdown Man? A complete hoax that was displayed in British Museum for decades. Display in a museum means nothing. This piece is an example to proove that. Tom A |
This item was pulled from the Museum of World Wars in Santa Ana, California however we are not certain if is authentic or a replica. The stock would have been in the museum as early as 1976.
They give the above statment but also say they have a 3 day inspection, what are they gonna say when someone wants to return it because its a replica? clint |
If you manage to wade through everything until you get to the bottom of the page, they have posted this notice:
On Sep-14-05 at 18:51:38 PDT, seller added the following information: We have received information from a bidder that indicates a possibility that this may not be an authentic Luger stock. Here is the bidder's message in full: "I think the luger stock you are showing is in fact be a post-WWII stock manufactured to go with reproduction model guns manufactured in Japan. The guns were all metal and could be functioned with dummy rounds and/or blank firing rounds. The stocks (I've seen several with stocks identical to the one you show) were well made, with a stamped metal attaching iron whereas authenic attaching irons are milled from solid steel forgings. The model stocks would attach to the model BUT NOT TO A REAL LUGER due to restrictions on marketing the model stock and gun -- to prevent violation of BATF rules about making a prohibited short-barreled rifle. (The rule was later relaxed for certain curios & relics.) You may want to alert potential buyers that the stock may not attach properly to a P08 (Luger) since the latching was deliberately designed to prevent use with a real Luger pistol -- but it will attach to the model gun." |
Well its up to $405 so someone must want a model replica stock worse than me. lol
|
I looked at the bid history on this and the stock was only at $80-$90 when the question came in from the bidder (dated 9-14) most of the bids went in after that! Kind of makes you wonder, I guess all you have to do is say Navy and Luger in the description anything will sell for big money. This is a poor repo and it's not even of a Navy stock!
I think I would be very cautious about buying anything from this "Museum". Bob M. |
Hugh's post is very accurate. This is a reproduction model gun stock. You can tell by the latch mechanism. It wouldn't be worth $5.00 to me to sit in my junkbox...
I do not recognize any of the bidder's names except Bob Sptizer (SCHWOB) who has dropped out, and of course Revshop (and KK should know better...) |
