need LP-08 advice
 

I picked up this pistol at a local gun show and need some advice on repairs and values--

I would like know the feasibility of restoring the sight and toggle--

The holster looks like it's had some rework--I'd like to have it restored if
possible. The makers mark is-- H Hoffmann Jr--Berlin--1917. In with the unmarked tool was the springy thingy. I'm assuming it's a bonus.

The grips are unmarked, and in good condition which seems to match the very clean bore. All parts have matching numbers. The gun is serialed
8774 m with a matching magazine(the wood bottom is broken with 74 m +
still showing). I have a second mag(9476 m +) in very god condition.
I will need a new firing pin and extractor before firing it. Also a couple Mec Gar mags will be needed. That should be a good start. Any info will be
sorely needed. Thanks--Al

The holster would cost $100 plus to restore and the pistol about $800 not counting the rear sight which may cost another $300. Hate to be a jerk,which I am, but your restoration costs are going to approach the real value of the restored pistol. Depending on what was paid, this artillery may have been a bad buy, if you are in for less than $600 you may want to consider "parting it out".

As a commentary on current markets, I might offer that you holster... properly restored may well be worth more than the pistol.

... the old "no international shipping" problem? Not really a problem. All you do is use your membership in this forum to get you out of a tight spot.

Find yourself a Germany based member of this forum and have them acquire the part for you and ship it to you... I have done this several times on international auctions with great success...and the price? Every time I have done it, the price has been the actual cost of shipping, money conversion, and an offer to return the favor if they find something in the USA that the seller doesn't want to be bothered with international shipping.

A couple of forum members that are Germany based that I can recall offhand are Pisto (does business on ebay as Pisto.lero all the time and ships to the USA), Dieter, and Klaus just to name a couple. Working unworkable deals like this is what friends are for. Good Luck.

another option is to just take it out and have fun shooting it. I hear that Idaho is a great hunting place. You might have some fun plucking off some rabbits.

I have to agree with George Anderson, the gun would cost more to restore than its worth. Many of the parts have also been too damaged to sell on Ebay. You might not get your money back by parting it out so you might as well have some fun shooting it yourself.

Big Norm--That's what I've decided to do. Our season starts in a few weeks and with the right loads I might connect.
In my younger days I bow hunted in upper MI( Channing/Segola/Witch lake area) and downed a bear and a buck during a 5 week hunt. That's some fine country.

I would still have Ted Green (Thor) look at your photos and give you an estimate on an overall restoration, and at the very least, a rebuild of the rear sight. Estimates don't cost anything...

The next thing I would do is find yourself a reproduction shoulder stock, because it would be legal with this Luger, regardless of it's condition. It will make shooting it a whole different kind of fun.
