Kesselring letter
Hi,
Has anyone seen or heard of a limited print or reproduction of a letter, sent by Kesselring to friends and supporters upon his release from prison for health reasons in 1952? I have a chance to pick one up at a reasonable price, but this isn't exactly my cup of tea. If it's a known bogus I'll pass up on it. |
Gerben,
I can't help with your request, perhaps someone else can... but I have a Kesselring story for you... in the mid 1980's, while part of an Army Inspector General team, I inspected a communications facility managed by a civilian whose office was decorated with WW2 memorabilia... on his desk, next to his regular telephone, was an antique phone of a type I had never seen before but looked European in design... After asking if I could examine it, he claimed that he had personally removed this phone from the Field Marshall Kesselring's desk after the end of the battle for Montecassino... Now I don't know if his story was true or not, but at the time I was duly impressed... |
My dad was 506 PIR and they spent a lot of time in the eagle's nest area after the war.
He had pics of him and his buddies sitting by Aolph's big picture window drinking wine from the cellar. He was on a guard detail for a while and had to stand over Kesselring periodically. Called him an arrogant bastard that needed buttstroking pretty badly. He also ha a lot of pics of a camp they liberated with big piles of bodies. The man had bad feelings for germans the rest of his life. |
