Only My Wife would.........
 

I just had to share this. My wife and myself are both native Oregonians.

We were born and raised within 15 mi of each other in the western foot hills of the Cascade Mountains. For anyone familiar with Western Oregon . You know that the only thing we have more of than wild blackberries, is rain. And that could be up for debate.

My loving wife of 28 years, just made a quick trip to the store for dog food and a few things for dinner. What ,of all things did she come home with but.............:rolleyes:

She could have stopped every five feet and picked one. By the time she was home. The back of her rig would have been full.

This is the true meaning of the adage, "Selling water to a drowning man"!!

We have the same can in our pantry....we would need travel 1000 miles to pick such....but we do have sidewinder rattlers!

Howard, I'll trade you 35 miles of Blackberries for a mated pair. We would prefer sidewinders.:D


I would add that another commodity we have is the Filbert. Or to anyone else, domestic Hazel Nuts. When I was growing up we had a washtub full drying in our garage 12 months a year. You had to fight the neighbors to keep them from leaving boxs full on your porch in the middle of the night.

Now we have "Made in Oregon" stores that cater to the tourists. They put them in cute little 3lb gunney sacks labeled "Oregon Hazel Nuts" and sell them for $5 a lb. You can also buy a little bottle of "Genuine Oregon Rainwater" for a $1.

I'll send you a breading pair of Vinageroons for the 3lb of Filberts...one bite from one and all you taste for a year is vinegar....really...looks like a tail less scorpion.

Ed, I need to get my 6" .30 out and try it. Haven't fire a round through it yet. The other three 4"ers I've had over the years all shot great.

As far as berries go. We pretty well get tired of them during the summer. Frozen ones get us through if we get in the mood. BTW, you haven't had heartburn until you've had it from too many Blackberries. Like a flame thrower.

Blackberries are my favorite. Nothing beats a blackberry cobbler fresh out of the oven covered with vanilla ice cream!

It would be to decide which is better to shoot between an artillery and a 6" .30.

Blackberries are popular and grow quite well in North Carolina where I'm located. Maybe not quite as widespread as where you are, but they can be easily found.

One of my best friends and hunting buddies is from Waynesville, NC. They settled here because it reminded them of home, and we have wild Blackberries.

Where I grew up. About 50% of the kids were first generation Oregon born / Tar Heels.

So you have had Marionberry Jam? It's good on pancakes! Domesticated hybrid blackberries with the wild tartness bred out of them.

The next time you have a visit. Have your host take you to the "Sea Hag" in Depoe Bay, for Crab cakes. You'll go AWOL and stay. ;)

Another recommendation is a little cafe called Mr Bill's at the south end of Lincoln City. The best Shrimp and Crab Omlettes in the world.

Smart man. Never I mean NEVER bad mouth the cook or what they fix! If you do no telling what you will be eating next time. Don't ask how I know this.

My Grandparents owned a Cottage Court at Ocean lake. Before the 5 towns were consolidated into Linclon City. I spent a good part of my childhood there.

D river is neat. You can stand in the middle and see the lake at one end and the ocean at the other.

We make a point to stop at the Sea Hag every time we go to the coast. If I lived in Depoe Bay, I would weigh 400lbs. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it.

I have been over most of the western US and half way around the world three times. To nearly every country on the Pacific Rim. And I have never seen anything that could compare.

I'll leave the three-sided flag comment for others to scratch their heads over. :D
