1916 Navy question

I examined a Navy today that I think is legit - following Tom A's guidelines except for one thing that I observed that troubles me. In the frame ears there are striations, not circular marks that indicate original manufacture. In fact, I noticed these striations on my 1916 DWM, a 1917 DWM arty and this gun. So, I shall conclude that they are all refinished? I unfortunately goofed up on the pix, so the attached is the best I could do.

Sorry for the 700K picture. I will shrink it when I figure out how to do it.

You will have to do better on the photo end, this picture is not enough.

The picture itself is ok but a lot more are required in more detail.

Where exactly are the striations that you are concerned about. Striations are a good thing if in the correct placement whilst milling marks raise concern if in the wrong location.

I have not read Tom A's guidlines so not to sure which area of the rear site you refer to.

your quote---In the frame ears there are striations, not circular marks that indicate original manufacture. In fact, I noticed these striations on my 1916 DWM, a 1917 DWM arty and this gun. So, I shall conclude that they are all refinished?

Don't be to hasty on this point.

James, Tom A's guidelines are "topped' at the top of the Navy section...

Paul, I copied and then posted the picture for you, if you have a chance can you take a bunch more?

Gentlemen, I am sorry that I cannot post any more pictures as I do not have the gun and the pix I took were out of focus!

There were no circular milling marks in the ears. There were straight lines of various sizes oriented on the vertical to the upper right. The lines were under the blue finish.

Pic of ears on 1916 DWM

This is from a NON navy DWM 1916. Showing the striation lines that I have been trying to use as a guideline for refinish evidence.
