Hi Mike, the correct magazine for your 41 byf depends on the serial number of the pistol. The German Military stopped serializing the magazines somewhere around the W-Block. If your Luger is prior to that, the proper magazine is a center pin type, probably an fxo, with the serial number of your pistol stamped on the bottom, including the correct suffix letter. After that the magazines shipped with the Lugers were fxo with either blank aluminum bottoms or blank black plastic bottoms.

Mike, the magazine you show is for a 41 byf. You haven't mentioned whether the serial number, including the suffix matches your pistol!

no suffix?
thought all byf have suffix.. |
Mike, 41 byf 8346 NS would have been shipped with either a blank fxo aluminum bottom or, more likely, a blank fxo black plastic bottom magazine. Please take a look at the right side of the receiver and verify the inspection marks (Waffenamt Marks) are both E/135.
Morgan, the 41 byf series started in the N-Block and continued through the beginning of the B-Block. So after serial number 9999z, the next pistol was numbered 01 with no suffix. The next 9998 pistols had no suffix!! |
The right side of the receiver and the inspection marks (Waffenamt Marks) are both E/655.

Hi Frank,
Thought I'd share a little bit of information on a byf 41 that I have. This rig is also in the no suffix letter block and it does have two matching numbered fxo aluminum based magazines. So, apparently a few were still being numbered after the "v" block, or "w" block as you stated. --- Bill |
Hi Bill, I have a few magazines that are numbered in the no suffix range too. They are pretty few and far between. Don Hallock has few records after the U Block, so they are anomolies to be sure!!
|
thanks for the info on the suffix! Any idea what they did after 9998?
|
Morgan, the next number is 9999 no suffix, then 01a, 02a, etc. The 41 byf range extended into the early B-Block!! Sorry for any confusion!

That clear things up:)
