RARE Navy mag on Ebay

Now I have seen everything I am not a Navy collector, but this is really wrong. Anchor marked! Stamped! More like carved!

With the outlandish prices several questionable items have been going for lately, why not try something as preposterous (read faked) as this to make a few bucks? After all, what teeth do the ignorant e-bay "police" really have? Occasionally an illegal frame appears for auction and is not caught. Hopefully the members of this Forum are educated by our experts and will never make a mistake and bid for something so obviously spurious.

Nope...this is the very rare magazine for the one-of-a-kind luger that belonged to "Popeye"...;)...anchors away, matey...

Edward Tinker 08-02-2005 12:18 PM

This is the "gentleman" that convinced me to change my e-bay screen name from 66mustang, I had a couple of people think he was me, since he dealt in luger items... I felt that since he has 7 negatives (or whatever he had at the time), I would rather not compete against his rep versus mine...

I emailed him the following. We'll see if he updates his auction?

You do know that the anchor marking on this mag is bogus? Real Navy mags were only marked with a Crown over M the serial number and letter and + for spare mags.

He also is selling a black FXO mag as a HK mag :

I have offered to send him some photo scans from the Gibson HK book...

I think this one with the anchor is probably the HK mag. Rare and desirable :-)

It has two bidders now. My dilemma is should I inform the bidders that the mag is bogus? I gave the seller the opportunity to correct the listing before there were any bids and he did not. What say you all?

Hi Doug,

Inform the bidders; it is the right thing to do.

Tom is correct. To allow someone to be a victim of fraud isn't right.

Doug G. 08-04-2005 01:23 PM

I emailed them about the mag. They can't say they weren't warned.

John Sabato 08-04-2005 03:55 PM

thanks for emailing them Doug.

Herr Trautman is a member of the forum, but I don't think he visits us very often... I also emailed him about this item to warn him. I don't know the other fellow...

lugerlou 08-07-2005 01:20 AM

John Sabato

I communicate with Gerhardt and have also emailed him about the magazine, that is sufficient warning for him.

Gerhardt usually is into good stuff only so he may have his reasons.

Lugerdoc 08-07-2005 06:20 PM

The anchor on the above mag is of the Jap Navy type. Other that the number being backwards, he may have just missed the nationality. TH
