Mauser company history arrived.

The book arrived today. It's not in as good a condition as the DWM book, but workable nonetheless.

A first impression is that the production of the Luger at Mauser is somewhat hidden in the publication.

Interesting parts about the 1930 - 1934 timeframe. It appears that in those days the Mauser plants were operating on a bare minimum. Also interesting is that Mauser set up a Berlin plant at the DWM site in Berlin-Wittenau in 1934. It seems that moving P08 production from DWM Berlin to Mauser at Oberndorf and then Mauser entering the same building where DWM produced the P08 before is not very logical.

The low number of staff and the fact that Mauser was working on the edge of bankruptcy between 1930 - 1934 sheds some interesting light on the Luger production of the time.

Some photo's from the book:
(and the only P08 picture in it)

This one was also used in Goertz's 'Die Pistole 08'.

Testfiring a bucketload of C96 pistols. Note the stock.
P08 testfiring would have been done in the same manner, with a stock attached.

Man, That guys ears must have been ringing at the end of the work day! Jerry Burney

Hi Ed,

The official name is

"Geschichte der Mauserwerke".

It was published in 1938 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the company. The same editing team of VDI verlag also composed the '50 Jahre Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken' in 1939.

Jerry, does it appear to you that he has a plug in the ear?

If not, or maybe even if so, the ringing and all other noise would probably disappear in a matter of a short time!

Vlim 07-29-2005 03:18 PM

This blowup suggests that he indeed is wearing earplugs or has a real earwax problem :D

Probably his ear drum bulging. His nickname was "Whadyasay!? Max" .

Well,

Just revived this topic to inform you that I managed to stumble across another, just about mint, and slightly more luxury version of the same book, with it's original cardboard presentation box.

No need for having two of these rare books in one house, so as we speak, one should be on it's way to Mauro in Belgium.

Nice, nice, nice!!
I am really looking forward to receive the copy you post to me.
Cheers,
Mauro

Gerben,
The book is just arrived.
I have quickly look at it, it is plenty of beautiful photos.
Really nice.
Thank you for this.
Ciao
Mauro
