1935 S/42 Mauser G How much is it worth?
 

To All,

I recently purchased this Luger and so far I have been able to figure out with the aid of the logo pages that it is a 1935 S/42 Mauser G.

I have attached 4 photos that I took which I believe should help judge it's value.

Toggle Inscription - S/42
Chamber inscription - G
All matching serial #s 9716 and 16 except the magazine

I am curious as to what it is worth, so that hopefully I didn't get ripped off when I traded in a post WWII GI edition Luger and some cash for it.

This is a great addition to my WWII style firearms collection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like a very nice G Date. If its not a re-blue (hard to tell with photos provided) I would pay you $1400 to $1600. Its hard to give you a value these days, if you check some of the dealers, they are asking a lot more for lugers than I would pay.

What did you trade for, if I may ask ?

I believe that the finish on the S/42 is original. I was a US Air Force Security Police Armorer for 4 years and have lots of experience with M1911s, M-9s, M-16s, M-60s and the finish is comparitable to the finish on our 1960s era M-16s and old, old old M1911s. So I'm pretty sure that it is authentic.

I traded it on Friday, 22 Jul 05 for $190.00 plus a Luger that I bought from the same place for $699.00 back in Feb 05.

Using the information from this website I determined that my original Feb 05 Luger was one of the ones that was assembled post WWII from spare parts to sell to American GI's. It was in amazing shape with very little wear and very nice straw finish, but with no matcing #'s.

I concur on you getting the better end of the deal. That small gunshop obviously doesn't know the current value of an original finish G=date Luger...
