First Luger? Help!
I have an opportunity to acquire my first Luger: a choice between a 1918-dated Erfurt model or a 1940 S/42. Both appear to be in reasonable condition but neither (as far as I can tell) is especially originally ie non-matching numbers, the Erfurt has replacement grips etc. However, the Erfurt does have a wooden base magazine and a possibly interesting inscription on the front grip strap (15.AJR.8.18).
Which would you choose?! Anything I should particularly look out for with either pistol? Neither, BTW, is a shooter. Both are deactivated according to specs here in the UK (groan!) Jerry |
Jerry, I would go with the Erfurt as it is unit marked and has a somewhat traceable history. Please check the marking again and repost it including any punctuation marks or slashes.

Jerry,
I would be interested in the one that you don't want, Please e-mail me with the contact informaion.... jamesegg@bellsouth.net Thank you, Jim |
Thanks guys. I chose the Erfurt -- an extra 20 years or so of sweat, grime and history! I'll post a pic or two here as soon as I receive the pistol.
Jim: sorry but AFAIK the other pistol is already sold (both were part of an auction at www.speedbid.com, a militaria-oriented web auction site that offers the items Ebay won't!) Regards Jerry |
