Mike Morris' Site...

Mike has posted a few nice looking $ 750 to $ 900 lugers for sale on his site. One is an Erfurt with a great looking holster :

Ron,

Congratulations. You got a nice buy at that price. I'm envious.

Ron Smith 07-22-2005 10:06 AM

Thanks, Don. It hasn't arrived yet, but I keep hoping. I will post some photos when it arrives.

I got my camera back yesterday.

Ron

Just talked to Mike. He sent it out on Monday. So, any time now.

Ron,

In an email, Mike said he was shipping it today. I asked him to check the gripstrap again to see if he could make out the x'd out weapon no. My read from the photo posted on his site suggested it could be 35 rather than 55. It makes a difference in my analysis of these Berlin Schupo marks.

Ron Smith 07-22-2005 10:26 PM

Don, He said he was just sending it out today?

Now isn't that odd. Unless he got confused?

What kind of a difference would the weapon number make in the analysis?

Ron,

I have discovered that you can determine the break point in the later Berlin Schupo weapon numbers (e.g., 7035 on your new Luger) that correspond to the individual units in some instances. For example, if the earlier number on your gun is 55, the first weapon number for Riot Squad 1 in the Charlottenburg (W.I.) Inspectorate was 6981. If it is 35, the first number is 7001. Yours is unique since knowing this number will also allow me to identify the full range of Precinct Police weapon numbers in the Charlottenburg Inspectorate. The starting number for this block of numbers is 5151 and Riot Squad 1 had the next higher block. If I can get enough of this type of information, it will be possible to identify the specific unit for a Berlin weapon based only on its later mark. This will help identify the units for pistols with the earlier marks obliterated.

My Auto Mag article will have more about this.

P.S. I never heard back from Mike Morris about the mark so maybe he had already sent the gun.

Don, this makes sense for consectutive bought guns, but can you can hypothosise this for most guns?

Don M 07-23-2005 10:07 AM

Ed,

At this point, I can only support this for Berlin but it does not require consecutively purchased guns. My article will lay out the logic.

Sounds interesting, look forward to reading it, enjoyed immensely the last one in Napca.
