tight magazine compartment
 

I recently acquired a 1913 DWM in which the magazine is very tightly held when put in the gun. It appears to me as if the luger was dropped at somepoint and bent the lower frame slightly. Does anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Jim

I doubt that that solid frame would bend all that easily, as the metal is extremely tough.

I have had this problem before, too.

For instance, my 1917 DWM magazine will barely fit in my 1941 byf. If inserted, it is almost impossible to remove (especially, with slightly oiled fingers).

No, I don't think that this is an unusual problem. If the magazine is matched to the Luger, I would be very surprised.

I would try another vintage magazine or buy an new Mec-Gar.

I agree with Sieger... try some different magazines. If they are all as tight as you describe, there may be some bending of your frame involved...

a new Mec-gar aftermarket magazine should be an easy slip fit in your Luger.

Ted Green (aka THOR) should be able to help you if a bent frame is the case...

This is just a suggestion, but get some fine steel wool, soak with break free, remove grips and magazine, and really scrub out the magazine well. In nearly 100 years there might be some build up. Also try the magazine without the grips installed. Grips might be binding the magazine. If the magazine does not bind with grips removed then replace one, tighten, and see if it binds. Then try the other. If one binds (or both) then slowly release tension until magazine is loose. If that is the problem get small thin rubber faucet washers, place between grip and frame, then retighten.
