Hi, I am trying to identify a marking on a P08 that has been described to me as all matching including both mags. I don't have the year/code yet. Can anyone identify this marking? I have never seen it before, does it look Imperial? Thanks very mcuh,
Joe

very grainy on my screen, looks to be a crown Nitro, sometimes refereed to as C/N...has a police sear safety, that spring steel band sitting atop the side plate....it would ID the gun as serving with the German police sometime prior to end of WW2....please let me know if I can help.

So Joseph, are you buying this as a matching or "rig" that is police? The holster is police, the magazine looks like it could be?

Are there unit markings on it, and if so?

If it is crown N on the left, it won't have markings on the right, the crown N is the commercial acceptance, which can be seen on weimar alphabet police and others.

Are you looking for an Imperial marked luger?

Hi Ed, thanks very much, my area of focus is 3rd Reich, although all Lugers are beautiful, right? The price is very fair I think, which is attractive to me, can always trade it. I will admit the obvious, I don't know the first thing about police Lugers. Will try for nore info soon, thanks again,
Joe

this is DEFINITELY a police luger... notice the spring clip that acts as a sear safety just above the sear bar... This was a police modification.

josef,

Any marks on the front grip strap?

josef 06-28-2005 02:09 PM

Hello Gentlemen, thanks for the information. I am currently awaiting more information. The man I am in contact with has been trying to get information for me, including any grip strap markings. Can I ask, do police Lugers have a higher collector demand than Third Reich Lugers? It's really out of my scope. Thanks Gentlemen :)

Here is the email I received, no markings on the grip strap (none mentioned anyway after I asked).

"There are no markings on the toggle that I can see. The serial number is 8185 if that helps. All of the parts that are stamped are "85" so everything matches.

There is a scroll engraved marking that looks like "DMC" or "DWC" on the top of the receiver near the toggle.

Tha clips are aluminum as far as I can tell, and are serialed with the "8485" and the designation "1" and "2" which I assume designated the original and spare. One of the mags has a very small eagle/nazi emblem on it.

The holster is in good shape, but I see few markings on it. There is a stamp on the back with the makers name and city.

He tells me that he was told by the person he bought it from that it was a pre-war manufacture, likely a police gun."

Is this a desireable rig?
I know if it was military it would be (all maching with mags), but I am really out of my scope here on police rigs. Thanks very much for any help.
Joe
