I'm tempted to buy it just to take it out and bury it somewhere. And I sincerely apoligize for posting such an abomination, but its sort of lke seeing a squashed possum on the road, you know what you are going to see but just have to look anyway, and tell someone else to look too. Then, after the examination in which you weren't disappointed, you can't get the vision out of your head for a while. This does that to me. And you are very welcome for me sharing this with you.

Good God!!!! I didn't know Santa Claus was a concealed weapons carrier.

The seller has a sense of humor, kinda reminds me of a remark by Julia Child some years ago comparing a green salad to the Italian flag.

Since it started out life as a Llama then took on the colors of the Mexican flag, maybe it's now a Burro.

Disneyland ? Maybe "Neverland"

This reminds me of a Wingmaster 870 I have that had rusted and destroyed most of the bluing. I took the metal to the white and spray painted it with the only colors I had available. Okay, maybe not the only colors, but the brightest colors anyway.

I painted the reciever flourescent pink and the barrel flourescent lime green. I mostly just did it to protect it while I decided what else to do with it. It was comical and temporary, I just used some Rustoleum to cover it. One butt-ugly gun, to be sure...

I tried rebluing it with cold blues, with a fair degree of sucess I might add. But then I got a powdercoating gun and that was it. I wrote an article for American Gunsmith on how to powdercoat your guns and used the 870 - which had now become my primary bedroom gun - as the perfect example of what to coat. I used Silvervien epoxy powder and here's how it turned out.

It's the gun I hide close at hand in my bedroom in case of a midnight home invasion. I have two in the bedroom, one in the living room and several scattered throughout the house, their locations being somewhat secret.

Perhaps I should have said "bedroom weapon", instead of "gun". I forgot the old Marine Corps addage "This is my weapon, this is my gun. This is for shooting, this is for fun".... :p

Terry, In North Carolina they keep those street howitzers in the bedroom for the opossums. It is one of the lower crime areas you could move to. However, Pittsburgh is much more civilized and you get a concealed carry permit by going to the police station and showing your drivers license.

Tac, the reason there's so little crime here in Western North Carolina is because we all have guns and we practice using them. Sure, I collect Lugers, Colt Police Positives and a host of other nice, fun weapons, I also carry a S&W Chiefs Special in .45. The would be bad guys know what we rednecks are like and don't tangle with us too often. When they do, they usually find themselves six feet under rather quickly.

That said, bad guys aren't the only reason we have guns so close at hand. This shot was taken in my backyard. All we had to shoot it with this day was a Canon EOS 20D, but the tide could have turned quickly and a more potent caliber would have been at hand in seconds.

Like Tac, down here in cloud cuckoo land we have laws banning the possession of arms for defence too.

Hey Tac, I prefer a 577/450 Martini, make a good handle for a bayonet, and if the bullet doesn't get 'em, the muzzle flash burns 'em to death!

Tac, if you ever were lucky enough to relocate to WNC, you'd never leave...

thegundude, I just got back from a week on the Blue Ridge Parkway, went thru Asheville, wife and I and met up with a large bear on a lonely trail first morning out hiking. Thankfully it went one way, we went the other. She asked me where my pistol was, had it in a small day pack, told her everything was ok. Like I was really going to hurt that big critter with a .32 PP. Next time I'll take something more suitable. Beautiful country up there.

Thanks. Yeah, it's pretty alright.

And our bears are pretty friendly, all in all.... :)

I'm glad you liked my neck of the woods. I love it...

Well,

Don't show any pictures of that 1911 over here. Toy guns are only allowed (!) if they are painted in a non-pistol color, for example green or red :D

You can get arrested for having a non-shooting replica that looks too much like the real thing....

Life in the EU, wonderful and exciting....

JuergenG 06-28-2005 04:24 AM

...and in your direct neighbourhood they are now about to ban "public carry" (means: kids playing) of softair guns.
Their argument is, that the Police could "mis-interprete" these as real guns and shoot on kids.
It's all for the kids, you know.....

Steve,
My best friend is from Waynesville NC. He is one of the best shots I have ever seen. Said that he grew up hunting squirrels. They moved to Oregon about 35 years ago.

Ron

thegundude 06-28-2005 10:48 AM

Yeah Ron, one thing we have in abundance here are good shots. Though I'm considered a "halfback" here in the south (a Yankee who moved to Florida and then moved halfway back), I've been able to hone my shooting skills to hang with the best of 'em... :-P

One thing about rednecks. They sure can shoot.... ;)
