Magazine Info Needed
 

Just purchased a Finnish Luger built on a 1920 Commercial DWM frame, but it has a WW-II type magazine. I suspect that it is a renumbered Police Mag, but I am not familiar with Police Lugers.

Can anyone confirm and give me an estimate of the value?

Yep....it is a police mag, hope this helps.

$50-$75, I didn't see any Haenel markings on it.

If it has 1/1001 then it is east german.

No, it does not have 1/1001 on it anywhere.
This makes it NOT East German ? ? ? ? If not, would it have been WW-II civil police?

It is marked in the following manner:

1. Small stick-eagle /37 near the top, left side.
2. Small stick-eagle/37 underneath "fxo" on the lower left side.
3. "P08" is stamped on the lower left side near the rear flat edge.

The metal tube is extruded and blued with a zig-zag spring.

So, these magazines are worth less than the wood-bottom WW-I DWM magazines? I will probably sell it on ebay, as I have no use for it; just wanted to know where to set the reserve.

Hi Luke,
To me your magazine looks like it has been ground and re-numbered. The numbers do not look like the correct style for a WW2 example. Without looking at in in person one can make a mistake, but it just doesn't look correct to me. These FXO Police magazines were used on the very late byf 41 police examples as well as some of the late 1941 Dated Banners, some of the 1942 Dated Banners, and is possible to be found on the 41 and 42 Two Digit Banners. Numbers and base just doesn't look right on your magazine though in my opinion. Also, if all original I would say the price would be somewhere around the $100- $150 price range as these magazines are fairly hard to come by --- Bill Munis

Thanks for the comments. Yes, the bottom has been ground and renumbered. I was assuming that it was originally a regular WW-II magazine which had been renumbered as a police mag, basing my assumption on the size of the numbers and the fact that there is a "2" stamped into the bottom along with the new serial number.

Police magazines were not renumbered for the Banners, but may have been renumbered for ealier Weimar Lugers as some sort of replacement. Original Banner or Mauser police magazines were of new manufacture. More than likely someone has tried to match your magazine to a police Luger and ground the base and then added the numbers. Anyway, it is not correct for the Banners or Mauser Police Lugers, in my opinion. --- Bill

Before you just abandon this magazine, you should know that these extruded magazines are extremely good and reliable shooting mags.

Thanks for the tip. I have restricted my interests and buying to DWM Imperial Army Lugers, so this is my first shooting experience with one of these magazines. You are right, of course; the magazine works perfectly. Just ran about 50 rounds through it without a problem.

Nevertheless, I already have numerous functional shooter magazines, and I plan to sell this one on ebay . . . . hoping that some Police Luger collector finds it interesting.
