Holster values
 

Having finally gotten a reasonable idea of the values of various model Lugers to carry around in my head while tire kicking at local gun shows, I still can make little sense in the pricing that holsters are being offered, and apparently being purchased, at these shows or on the various sites on the web. Are certain manufacturers, models or dates condered more desirable then others, condition being equal, and if so, would appreciate any info on those that would be considered to have the greater collector value.

Walt, Not so much manufacturers but models and dates are certainly more valuble. The Imperial Navy being one of the most valuble. The Artillery second. Navy marked 4" models, WW2 coming in , Pigskin hardshell Luger holsters, Commercial models, brown colored over black, I guess one could come up with a sliding scale. I have never really put together a list.
I would think condition trumps most every other consideration in any given model. Jerry Burney

Appreciate the info much, Jerry. There seems to be no logic to the pricing I've seen for holsterx at recent gun shows, but then based on the price that some of the dealers are asking for God awful junk Lugers, guess it boils down to "Buyer beware". Thanks much.

I have never seen a lot of sense in luger or luger holster values.... I expect condition will drive the price up, but at gunshows, every dealer thinks their luger or holster is worth what the top dollar on e-bay / gunbroker is...


like amount of lugers made, does it make sense that a krieghoff is worth 2x what a simson is worth? Or that a 1937 mauser is worth more than a 1916 DWM?

I had to pay really stupid money to get this Swiss holster :

Found out I was bidding against a fellow collector with quite deep pockets.

I wanted this holster for two reasons :

1. Its date of "41" is very appropriate for my Swiss Mauser luger (# 3721v ) made in the 1940-1941 time frame.

2. It has commercial style shoulder strap attachments (sewn in place) and non-military belt loop (only 1 not 2 loops).

I had to bite the bullet and bid way too high to win it. But how often woud I run across another Swiss commerical holster dated '41...?

That is a really super holster. I looked long and hard at it but didn't bid for two reasons: 1) I don't have a Swiss Commercial; 2) I could never outbid you two guys!

Holsters, stocks, and pouches are the oft overlooked treasures. Over time, leather and wood don't hold up as well as steel and they also pass unnoticed across international boundaries.

I believe that if someone were to take a look at some of my earlier posts, I strongly advocated taking a large position in leather. I am glad I got in deep before the market smartened up.
