Snail Drum Mag

is on Gunbroker: Rare WWI German Artillery Luger Snail Magazine Auction # 32611801

Reserve has been met and price is $400. What's wrong with this picture?

I give up - tell me ;)

Hairy,
this appears to be a type 1 snail drum. The base looks a bit pitted but the rest of it looks pretty good. The winding button looks different from mine in that the one on GB is checkered and mine isn't. The GB button is what is shown in most Luger books. There isn't a dust cover with it. Outside of that, it looks like it COULD BE legitimate. At the current bid of $405 it is within the range of these magazines. Sometimes these things go up to $1200+. It depends on how crazy some bidders get. But there are still a few days left in the bidding so you don't know where the bidding will end.

Lots of rust/pitting on one side...???

Well, we'll see where it goes. Given the prices type II's have been reaching I wouldn't be surprised to see it fetch some serious money.

What's the relative value and scarcity between the two types, and when were they produced ? One day I'll find one for $25 in the reject bin at the local store for my 1915 artillery, (dream on...).

Is it just me or has the price of nearly all accessories gone up dramatically in the last few months ?

I may have to fall back to P.38's, nope price of those is now beyond me. Good grief, double action only Enfield 38's on the auctions for $400, someone stop the insanity before the only gun I can afford is a Nagant, (arsenal refinished of course).

I found some I can afford so.You guy's just stay away from the RED RIDERS. There all mine!

Darn it Pipeman, so the days of the $1k Daisy are upon us, curses. I'm going to corner the market in collectible BB's; you'll all be coming to me for ammo at $10 a round, then I'll go buy me that worthless Krausse carbine :)
