Luger be Jammin'
 

Hi,

The Luger my dad brought back from WWII has been shooting Winchester white box "Target/Range" 115 gr. flawlessly.

Suddenly, it jams before battery: you can see the cartridge stalled at the receiver--the ejector in place over it.

It does the same thing using the original, a Mec-gar. or a Stoeger magazine--until now it has never jammed using the original.

The gun is very clean and well oiled.

What do you think?

If working before, then something is wrong... Spring broken, something caught, a piece of metal, could be several things.

BTW; I collect stories of bring-backs, have 40 entries by 35 different people, if interested, e-mail me, this would be for a booklet eventually.

Do you or anyone else know a good Luger smith on the East Coast? (I live in Northern Virginia near DC)

I forgot to mention that the front sight keeps falling off, and I have yet to find mild glue that resists solvent; I hesitate to use epoxy.

My dad was a pilot who flew B-26 bomber missions over Germany from France.

The 1920, P-08 Luger has no particular lore (although he did pull his chrome-plated 1911A1 on a farmer who approached him with a pitch fork after a crash landing).

He probably traded a carton of American cigarettes for the Luger after the Liberation during a short stint in Germany. (He also came back with a P-38, which I shoot regularly at the NRA Headquarters range, too)

The Luger has been an extremely accurate range gun--I never bothered to buy a modern 9mm pistol (though I may have to now <ha>).

stories like that are cool too! Does he own the 1911? That would make a greatr adjunct to the story.

I work in Northern VA, near Dulles Airport, and live in Winchester... where are you in relation to those locations. I would be happy to inspect your Luger one afternoon, or during my lunch hour, to see if I can determine what may be wrong... I haven't actively gunsmithed in decades, but if there is one gun I know inside and out mechanically, it is the Luger. ...and I don't charge anything... just glad to help out.

Since it was your Dad that brought it back, I presume we are close in age... (I'm 57)
