Strange sideplate
 
Could anyone tell me the origins of the sideplate on this gun ?

1929 Swiss

Ron,

I think this side plate might be from a M1906/24 Bern luger...the variety that came around serial # 27xxx...with the "island" of the side plate running to the top of the side plate.

It has more metal visible above the take-down lever. I think the M1929 side plate has less metal that would not be visible behind the take-down lever.

I believe you are absolutely correct Pete. I guess I jumped on the 1929 Swiss answer because there were so many more '29s produced than the 06/24 3rd Series, so a sideplate would be easier to come by. Also the "island" on the side plate of a 06/24 3rd is slightly narrower than a '29, and it appears that in addition to the wider extension the sideplate in question also is of the narrow island type. Good eye lad.
