My first Luger! BYF 1941 Black grips

1 Attachment(s)
I finally got to get my first Luger out of Lay-a-way the other day. From what I can gather it is a 1941 Mauser BYF marked all matching including the firing pin, sadly the mags do not, and it came with some type of holster that I have never seen before. I am going to try and get some pics that I took, but the old camera does not take great pictures. Please let me know if there is anything that you would like me to photo, look for, etc. Thanks for all the good reads so far and I hope to be able to contribute to this great board!

I will get the hang of the pic deal. I forgot to get pics of the holster and the inside of the grips. I will do that tomorrow when I get the camera back.

A little deal on the Luger. I teach World History, coach jr high football, high school wretling, and summer time wrestling so I do not have a lot of free time to hit the stomping grounds. About three weeks ago I had a free saturday so I hit the stomping grounds to see what was out there. At the last store, I had passed it earlier, the Luger had came in a couple hours before from a vet's widow. She did not know anything about the pistol except he came home with it from WWII. The store owner and I have a lot of the same tastes and he showed it to me. I fell in awe of it as soon as I held it. If it were not for the store owner having his fathers he would have kept this one. The store owner let me pay it out and I feel that I got a excellent deal especially after I have been watching them rise in value since I was in college. The vet's widow is also looking for the bring back capture papers. I would love to have those too so I would know the history ehind the piece.

Thanks again

great looking gun. If you need, I have an armor's FXO unnumbered aluminum bottom mag and pre-1945 shoulder holster (should you wish to put together a rig). You can PM me. I also have an SE/655 tool.

Edward Tinker 05-10-2005 11:50 PM

Hi Jeff,
Pretty nice one. Congratulations, you're hooked. Just send us all of your money and credit cards. And we'll do our best to save you from this terrible affliction. It could be too late though...

What is byf?

Hi,

My father brought back a P-38 stamped like yours: lowercase "byf"--what does it signify?

Mark

Frank 06-12-2005 06:39 PM

Hi Mark, the "byf" is the German Ordnance Code for Mauser, signifying that Mauser built the weapon. This code was initiated in 1941 and was in existance until 1945 when the Germans changed Mauser's Code to "svw".

That is one nice luger to get started with. I almost lost it when I first saw the pic of your un-matching mag #. 7768u as i'm searching in vain for 7769c. Oh well the hunt continues!

LMAO!! :D I didn't notice until you said that, but I can probably guess....

That's funny......

gundude, that came from a vet who was a groundscrewman for B-26's. We was the unofficial artist for the squadron and painted most of the noses. He really wanted a luger, but by the time his unit arrived outside of paris, he was only able to get a p-38 and this holster. The shoulder holster came from a fellow member on this board, it is one of several I've owned in this configueration.
