Tragedy strikes my new Erfurt.......
In the course of examining my newly purchased 1918 Erfurt #6423m, I noticed a large amount of wheel bearing grease in and around the breech block. I tooth brushed this area w/Hoppes #9. When I went to clean the blackish mess off the firing pin, I found out why it was there............Camouflage.........the firing pin lug had been broken off and silver soldered back poorly............Is there anyone in the whole wide world who can fix this properly now?????????? Are there any #23 Erfurt firing pins out there (or a parts condition gun for that matter?????). Unmarked Erfurt finish firing pin??????? How about Erfurt proofed grip screws in nice condition?????? I have a request in to Tom Heller but am rushing ahead just in case............

PJ, Sorry no #23 Erfurt proofed FP or grip screws. If your Erfurt is 1916 or after, it probably didn't have proofed grip screws to start with. TH

Thanks, Tom H. I didnt think the later Erfurts had proofed grip screws but they are really neat.......

Post a picture of it if you can....bet I can get it back correct

Glad you posted Howard. I was just getting ready to tell P.J. that if he wanted some super TIG-welding restoration done, you do great work.

I returned the firing pin to the seller. I will be more comfortable w/him seeing it. He tells me he has a qualified repairman. I will contact him for further discussion Friday/Sat.

Man. That's just wrong. I'd be pretty steamed at the seller.... >:-(
|
I am satisfied that there is no problem w/seller. The dirty grease inside the guns breech area was very old and dirty, and smelled like old grease. I know he DID NOT know it..........I am not in the least angry, I am far more interested in getting a proper repair. I want to keep this gun!!!!!

Thanks Ron. He has PM'ed me, perhaps we'll get the job and fix it for him....have a good one

If I can get it on, here is a picture of me with a consolation gun to atone for several less than satisfying Luger events recently. Mission accomplished, I have eliminated several dangerous 5 gallon cans in a pond........http://picture 135 http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/pictures_135.jpg
