Pete

Just received the 29 Swiss I have been driving you nuts about. It seems to have a good deal of bluing missing - especially on a streak along the left side of the barrel and on the side plate. The toggle where the Swiss Cross is seems to be rather mottled in color. I have a terrible time with % blue. Seems to be very subjective. Simpson says it's 95%; I say 90. If it is 90 or between 90 and 95, what would this do to value? It has a P-45 on the front of the frame and the P on the side rail is over the original proof. Right now, I think I'll send it back. Help???

Hi Bill,

For $ 1900...I think I would return this one as well.

Typically...I get Bob L. on the phone and have him describe any/all wear on the gun before I agree to have them ship it to me.

Simpson's has some nice red Berns for only $ 300-500 more than this brown one. I think the red Berns are a bit more collectible, especially with mint red grips and red magazine bottom.

Doug Smith and Ken Clark of FGS also have M1929's for sale. Ken is quite good about taking lots of detailed photos and emailing them to a prospective buyer.

p.s. If you pursue other Swiss lugers, I would highly recommend the big Swiss luger book written by Vittorio Bobba...lots of good info and great colored photos in that book...it is written in both Italian and English :

Going price for nice, used ones at gun shows seem to be around $ 90-100.

Pete Thanks again . I did talk to Dave a couple times but this is worse than described. The bluing is very gray and looks thin besides the wear spots. Back to the drawing board, but wiser I hope. Bill

Bill, we all enjoy the learning we are getting, but poor Pete must think he is being singled out....

:D

Bill,

You might call about this commercial M1929 with black grips and ask for more photos. Price seems very good for a commercial luger :

Scroll down on the page to see the M1929...

Pete, old buddy. On behalf of myself and most of the rest of the LugerForums, I would just like to thank you for putting that lovely Swiss Cross up in place of that ugly Swiss Mountain Troll you had before.... Big improvement.... :p

:D :roflmao:

(j/k buddy)
