Commercial Magazine Question
With a 20 Commercial (five-digit) Safe/Loaded Luger, would I expect to find the magazine bottom stamped GERMANY, or unmarked?
--Dwight |
After doing a little research, and realizing that I have a five-digit numbered magazine, I must revise my question to: when did DWM start stamping 5-digit numbers on the mags; was it consistent, or was this intermixed with unmarked or GERMANY stamped mags; and/or can one presume that GERMANY stamped mags came in with Alphabe Commercials?

Some are of the opinion that Germany stamped mags were not originally supplied with Germany marked pistols, and that they were extra mags purchased separately. This would be in keeping with the requirement that imported items had to be marked with the country of origin. Since an original mag that came with the pistol is not an individual import, but part of an import, only the pistol itself would be marked Germany. Just a thepry.

The only ones that I have seen with the serial number stamped on them were guns pressed into service by the military or police.

That would be consistent with the fact that at least some of the Commercial-Army Lugers have five-digit serial numbers which match the gun. Luke |
