front sight marking
I have a 1920 "alphabet" Commercial. I recently noticed that on the front of the front sight base, there is stamped a very tiny "G". I needed magification to see what it was. It is not well stamped, but it is clearly a "G". I have not found any mention on the Forum of this stamping. I assume it is common. Does anyone have any information about this? I have no way to provide a pic of it. -- George

Well, thanks anyway.

I think no one had a clue... I don't.
HEY, anyone have a clue!!!! :) |
Jan Still's book Weimar Lugers shows quite a few examples of these front sight markings, although they are silghtly out of focus. These markings are not readable in the photos, but clearly there is something there. Good examples are on pages 67 (a "P" perhaps?), and 277, although these markings can be seen in many other photos in Weimar Lugers. Doesn't anyone know anything about these marks? -- George

Front sight marking
I've checked Costanzo and every other reference that identifies markings but came up blank on a 'g' stamping. Not ignoring you cactus, just no info.
