Ammo Identification
I have three rounds of 9mm ammo. They have steel cases with black colored bullers. The headstamp is as follows:
St+ 6 45 dnh Could I get some assistance in identifying this ammo. Thank You |
Hello James, I moved your thread to here, as it didn't really belong in the "holsters" part of the forum...
I am sure there will be other folks that will know and be able to help you. Ed |
Hi,
Th St+ represents Stahl or steel. The material the case was made of. The black tip is constucted from iron slack and is called 'Sintereisenkern'. Usually the packaging says 'S.E'. These rounds don't work very well in the P08 and the packaging had a warning stating that they were only limitedly useable in the P08. These are late war products (as the 45 designates, this lot was produced in 1945). They were used in the P08, although they frequently caused jams, as the P08 doesn't like extracting steel cases. I have a dug-up P08 which still had a St+ marked steel case in the chamber. DNH is Rheinische Westfalische Sprengstoff A.G. (RWS) in Durlach, near Karlsruhe. |
If you shoot these armour percing rounds out of your pistol, you will notice a lot of color out of the end of the barrel. These are sparks from the steel bullets, wearing away your bore. One way to get rid of pitting, I guess. TH

Tom,
Haha. Nice. Perhaps development of a preshaped steel bullet for automatic barrel relining is an idea :D |
